Marvin Compton

CHURCH HILL- Marvin B. Compton, 72, passed away peacefully at his home Friday (January 30, 2010).

He was born in Scott County, VA and was a member of the Baptist faith. He moved to Church Hill where he resided for many years and graduated from Church Hill High School before relocating to Kokomo, IN and was a UAW worker and Union Member at Delco Electronics and retired from General Motors. Upon retirement, he returned to Church Hill in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben M. Compton and Allie “Bue” (Dingus) Compton, brother, Martin Compton and sister, Beulah (Compton) Weaver.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty (Rasnic) Compton, son, Robert Martin Compton and wife, Laura of Church Hill, daughter, Marvella Faye (Compton) Cross and husband, Charlie of Kingsport, two grandchildren, Janelle Lea Compton of Indianapolis, IN and Michael Christopher Howard of the home, three step grandchildren, Joshua Wyant of Bloomington, IN/Church Hill, Jordan Wyant of Church Hill and Amethyst “Amy” Wyant of Church Hill. He is also survived by numerous brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law throughout the region.

Marvin will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bryan Thurman officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Those desiring to attend can meet at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. or at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marty Compton, Charlie Cross, Chris Howard, Jordan Wyant, Chris Varney, and Mark Ford.

Honorary bearers will be Janelle Compton, Joshua Wyant, and Amethyst “Amy” Wyant.
