Thelma Yankee

Church Hill, TN

Thelma Yankee, age 80, of Church Hill passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Yankee was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the Grassy Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband; Herbert Yankee in 2009. her parents, Vester and Essie Ward. Brother; Onnie Ward.

Survivors include her daughter; Janice Salyer of Knoxville, her son; Roger Yankee of Kingsport. Grandson; Chad Salyer and his wife, Crystal Salyer. Great grandchildren; Cassidy Salyer and Zackery Lamb.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 8 pm Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Dwayne Gilliam and Rev. Robert Cooper officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 am Wednesday at the Yankee Cemetery with Rev. Teddy Webb officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 am Wednesday.

Serving as pallbearers are, Chesel Dykes, Jason Patterson, Eddie Patterson, Gary Salyer, G.W. Ward, Gary Matthews, Wayne Eikenberry and Orgie Sherfey.

Janice and Roger, I am so sorry about your mother. we just lost our mom on June 28th.so I know how hard this is for you. I have a lot of good memories with you and Thelma and Herb. I pray God will comfort you at this time. Love , Jackie

Roger, I want you to know what a blessing your mother was to us at church. She had a way of lifting you up no matter how low you were, she was a living testimony. I was on my way to Morristown today and as I was driving I could hear her singing, as I know she is in Heaven singing and rejoicing today.
